The Income Tax Department has an online system called e-Nivaran, which helps taxpayers address their issues. Whether you're having trouble with tax filing, refund delays, or any other related issue, e-Nivaran allows you to file a complaint and check the status of your grievance.
How to Submit a Grievance
You can submit your grievance in two main ways, depending on whether you are registered on the e-filing portal or not.
If You Are Registered on the E-filing Portal:

Log In: Go to the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department and log in to your account.

Navigate: Click on the Grievances tab.

Submit: Select Submit Grievance, choose the type of grievance, and enter the required details.

Confirmation: Once you submit, you'll see a success message and receive a transaction ID. An email confirmation will also be sent to your registered email ID.
If You Are Not Registered on the E-filing Portal:

Visit the e-filing Website: Go to the e-filing website.

Grievance Option: Scroll to the bottom and find the Grievance option under the Contact Us section.

Non-Registered User: Choose I do not have a PAN/TAN and click Continue.

Enter Details: Fill in your personal details, enter the OTP sent to your phone and email, and choose the type of grievance.

Provide Additional Information: Enter the relevant Assessment year, Financial year, and PAN/TAN Application number.

Describe Your Grievance: Write a detailed description of your issue and attach any necessary documents as proof.

Submit: Click Submit Grievance.
Additionally, you can also address your issues via email at webmanager@incometax.gov.in.
Time Taken to Resolve Grievances
Generally, the Income Tax Department resolves grievances within 8 weeks. Most grievances are addressed within a month. However, if the grievance is escalated from the Prime Minister's office, the Finance Minister's office, or the Central Board of Direct Taxes, it is resolved within 21 days.

On the e-Nivaran portal, you can file complaints about various issues including:

How to Check Grievance Status
To check the status of your submitted grievance:

Log In to the e-filing portal.

Grievances Tab: Navigate to the Grievances tab.

View Status: Click on View Grievance Status to see updates on your submitted complaints.
Escalating an Income Tax Refund Issue
If your issue, particularly related to an income tax refund, is not resolved, you can escalate it through the same portal. Follow the same steps as filing a grievance but select the option to escalate the issue within your grievance description.
